The small size of micro enterprises limits their ability to benefit from scale-based efficiencies. Their limited resourcing, in terms of both time and money, constrains their ability to obtain timely, accurate information, thereby leading to sub-optimal decisions. Both their size and level of resourcing influence their ability to adopt tools and technologies that impact on their operational effectiveness.

PortalStreet assists in for-profit and not-for-profit micro enterprise development by providing solutions to overcome these limits to size and resourcing. The former by finding scope for scale economies across micro enterprises; the latter by streamlining their information gathering processes.

Our preferred approach is to develop sectoral, as opposed to individual, solutions. We do this by focusing on what are similar or the same, rather than on what’s different, across micro enterprises and then using these as the basis for focusing the design and deployment of our solutions. For, while micro enterprises are clearly all different, they are also the same in many ways.
